Certified Veterinary Assistant Program
Interested in starting or expanding your career in the veterinary field, but don’t know where to start? Let the Certified Veterinary Assistant Program in partnership with Dallas College help start a career in veterinary medicine.
Designed for those with little to no experience in veterinary medicine, the Certified Veterinary Assistant Program teaches you the fundamentals in everyday practice. As a Certified Veterinary Assistant you will prepare patients for examinations by taking temperature, weight, pulse and respiratory rates, and aid veterinarians during exams and treatments. Additional responsibilities may include preparing medications and lab specimens, administrative duties such as billing and collections, scheduling appointments, maintaining files, preparing reports, and more.
This program consists of 272-hours of instruction and a 300-hour supervised externship to meet the requirements to take the Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA) level 1 exam through the Texas Veterinary Medical Association (TVMA). Credits from this program will transfer to the Dallas College Distance Education Veterinary Technology Program.
Registration is now open for the summer session starting on May 15.
